Dear Mr. Trump, our President. Even though this won’t reach you, I am reaching out to you. You offer, “Healing not hatred.” Those were your words.
Well, here’s what I think: you want healing, drop THUG AND SCUM AND JERK from your vocabulary. Get a dictionary and look up the words, empathy and irenic. Let George Floyd’s brother speak…because the best communication between two people whether or not they are in agreement is when you keep the ratio of two ears and one mouth.
And. This is personal to me since I was ordained into Christian Ministry in June of 1966, DON’T stand in front of a church holding the Bible, using the church as background and the Bible as prop. I am sure—this is a bias—it wasn’t your Bible. Plus, you had to look before you held it up, to see where the front of the Bible was. Plus, you didn’t open the Bible…and I would wager, if you had, it would have been a new experience. And DON’T urge us to go to church the next Sunday. Didn’t see where you and your family worshipped, even on-line that day.
Added to this, not a footnote, you are DEMANDING West Point Cadets return to their campus so you can deliver a Commencement Address? Are you advised some of them are COVID-19 positive and all cadets were sent home in March? To come and hear you speak on June 13?
It may be…your political future is narrowing. I have a hunch you will do ANYTHING for reelection. Maybe you cannot go lower…to speak to the nation while Mr. Barr orders the troops to tear gas the peaceful protesters from Lafayette Park so you can walk the walk. Dreadful is a kind response. I have another hunch: you are incapable to consider any person beyond yourself. In short, you will not take counsel from others who know so much more than you. Best case in point are the COVID-19 folk, primarily Dr. Fauci, who can give us the best coping advice.
Finally, and this is becoming ad naseum, but your refusal to wear a face mask—even though you are cleared of carrying COVID—insults those of us who know the face mask is not so much to protect us from others, but to protect others from us. Down deep it is obvious: you don’t care. That unto itself is the greatest evidence your presidency, as the historians now document it, is the most unreliable ever…even more unreliable than Nixon.
With grave concern,
Dr. Mark Henry Miller
